We are currently looking for a qualified applicant for a full-time English conversation teaching position in Okayama starting in September 2021.
This is a position at small, community-based, family-run language schools, so the class sizes are much smaller than what you would find in a public school. If you have a lot of energy, passion for teaching English, and want to make a difference, this is the right match for you!

About us
We have supported our local community since 1999. We have a team of foreign teachers and Japanese staff working at two school locations, one in Okayama City and another in Akaiwa City, about 30 minutes apart by car. You will be asked to teach at both school branches throughout the week. A valid international or Japanese driver’s license is important and preferred. We have a company car for commuting between schools. The company car is available on off hours for shared use between teachers. You will always be working alongside and within our team of foreign teachers.
We teach writing classes and novel reading classes. If you love reading, writing or literature, that is a big asset.
Most of our students stay with us for many years, with several continuing with us for over 15 years. Many of our students have graduated and gone on to top universities in Japan or colleges overseas. You can be part of their academic endeavors and achievements.
Our students’ ages range from 2 to 60+ years old. You will have the opportunity to work with students of varied proficiency levels and academic goals. We try to balance each teacher’s schedule to include a full range of age groups and levels. Class sizes average 4 to 6 students per group with a maximum class size of 8.

About teaching

You will have a set schedule teaching the same classes and students weekly. You will be responsible for and be able to see the impact your teaching has on your students.

We use our own teaching materials and lesson plans created and developed in-house for students of all ages. We continually improve the materials and lessons. All of our teachers participate at some level in the creation and development of our curricular paper-based, digital, and online content.

With 2- to 12-year-old students, you will teach conversational English courses as well as reading, and phonics. With very young learners, the teaching style is more active and energetic. Expect to do a bit of singing and dancing and doing high-energy activities with them. We have a lot of flashcards, realia, prompts and educational games to help keep students of all ages engaged in every lesson.

With teen-aged students, we have our own original speaking, reading, and composition courses. Our approach is practical and academic. We have had the pleasure of helping students get into top universities in Japan and overseas colleges. You will introduce different aspects of language arts as well as contemporary topics in world news. For adult classes, we use meaningful and engaging conversation topics and communication strategies with the students. Our students have expressed that they are very happy with the content and direction of our lessons.

With private students, you will develop lessons for their specific needs, such as presentations, interviews, and lower- or higher-level lessons. We create customized lesson plans for private students or draw lesson plans from the wide range of textbooks and resources that we have on hand.

You will always have the support of the school and our team of experienced teachers.
